“We see what we believe, and to change what we see, it is sometimes necessary to change what we believe.” – Jeremy Narby

These photographs challenge the self-portraits created by artists during the Renaissance. I am interested in the afterimage of an optical illusion created by the vibration of colours (look at the photo for 20-60 seconds and stare at a white object).

The act of taking the self-portrait in this particular scenario would be systematic. Other people could also produce these photographs as it is not about the photo, but the afterimage it produces – the self-portrait.

If I were to take this response further, I would have to better understand how the eye functions and color blindness. I would also further my research in the act of self-portrait itself.

Melanie just outside of my house, 2012.
i’m headed to do 9 20x24 colour darkroom prints today as a part of my final project from last semester. Although this is not one of them I’m stoked to finish it up today as I’ve a shit ton of work to do still for the other classes that I missed while I was out.

Since I’d much rather be updating my design blog than doing actual work.

The Jewel Collection

“Uncut jewels are often seen as ordinary rocks; only when cut and polished are they valued. Our wine celebrates jewels in their natural form, as they are reminiscent of life’s unknown path. We are the makers of our future. We cannot rely on a gem cutter to define life’s shape.

Embrace the rawness of life and remind yourself to make every decision count. Transform moments into something worth retelling. Fate cannot be predetermined. It is within a single decision that a future becomes a reality.”
